Review
There's a lot of things I miss about being a young music fan, before I became a jaded, old, heard-it-all snob. I miss hearing the singles for an album on the radio leading up to the album's release. I miss the feeling of anticipation that I would get on on album's release day, waiting till I could run to the music store to buy it. Heck, I miss enjoying new music, period! Thus, it was a special day for me when I made my way to the record store after work, past the speakers playing "Dream Fighter", up to a gaudy cardboard display to pick up my copy of ⊿.

The album starts with "Love The World" and "Dream Fighter", two singles that should already be familiar to Perfume fans. The former is arguably Perfume's most interesting song melodically, while the latter is probably their best single to date, but they seem a bit out of place aesthetically when compared to the songs to come. Yasutaka Nakata, the mastermind behind Perfume's jams, seems to have taken a decidedly less shiny approach to Perfume's newer songs. In comparison to GAME's zooming, futuristic polish, ⊿'s new batch of tunes sound unabashedly synthy, and more fresh as a result. "Night Flight" and "I Still Love You" sound like they're heavily influenced by old italo-disco, the latter borrowing some of the worst of the style's meandering traits, while the former delightfully obliterates the genre's bests. "Zero Gravity"'s jazzy groove and cosmopolitan melody remind me of my favorite Euro-house, while "Kiss And Music" bounces and grinds like a nightmarish threesome between Kool Keith, Mariah Carey and Roger Troutman. That's probably my favorite part of the album.

The nearly 9-minute album mix of b-side "Edge" along with the 8-minute tag team of "The Best Thing" and "Speed Of Sound" compliment ⊿'s shorter hits, helping to create a steady album-length groove. It's unfortunate, then, that album closer "Negai" lays on the sentimentality real cheesy, like a fondue fountain, with some cloying backing strings. As regrettable as that may be, though, it shouldn't be forgotten that Perfume has delivered an incredible new album overall, full of the same catchy autotuned dopeness that we've come to expect from our favorite synchronized dance trio. The only thing that could really make it better is if I could finally get Nocchi out on a date...
