Dance meets classic garage rock. Drawing inspiration from punk, soul, jazz, and house. The Jerry Lee Phantom smoothly combine elements from each genre, creating a unique musical experience.
In January, Keikaku talked with The Jerry Lee Phantom's Hisashi [vocal, guitar], Hiroshi [drums], Ayuko [piano, keyboard, vocal] and Morio [bass] about the band's thoughts on overseas fans, and their album Everybody Say It's Alright. |

What can you tell us about your band's history?
It's too long for us to explain in detail, so we'd like you to check out our website. We think our new member Satou Tomonori is definitely working out well.
What are some of the biggest difficulties The Jerry Lee Phantom has had to face?
Our biggest difficulty? Our many member changes over the years.
What can you tell us about The Jerry Lee Phantom's Sound?
The Jerry Lee Phantom draws influence from various kinds of dance music, and we think it gives us an original punk rock feel.
Who has influenced your music?
The biggest influence on us is The Clash. With music we like, whatever we listen to influences us and makes us want to create music.
What inspiration do you draw on to write your lyrics and music?
It's pretty similar to the previous answer. Punk, house, techno, hip-hop, reggae, soul, jazz... we listen to anything. Anything as long as it makes us want to dance to it. And so, that's also the kind of music we want to make.
What equipment do you use?
The guitar is an original model, the bass is a Rickenbacker, the drums are Canopus, and for keyboards, the Roland MK60 and JUNO 106.
What about future tour plans?
In April we're doing a nationwide tour! Also check out our web page about this.
You're releasing a new album Everybody Say It's Alright in February. What are the concepts behind this new album?
It's music for fucking crazy people to dance to in the middle of a city with no rules.
What kind of style does the new album reflect?
Jerry Lee Phantom's signature punk rock-styled dance music with simple guitars, drums, bass and keyboard.
What thoughts do you have on overseas fans and overseas tours?
If we have the chance, I think we'd immediately want to go tour overseas. We've thought so many times in the past that a live show in America would be really fun.
Is there anything you'd like to say to overseas fans?
We'd really like to expand the breadth of our tours so our music can reach fans overseas sooner. We hope one day that you all will be able to see us live.
